Calcio Ravennate in mourning for the passing of Domenico Ciani, one of the symbolic players of the Giallorossi’s history and the team’s undisputed striker between the end of the Sixties and the beginning of the Seventies. Ciani, who would have turned 79 on December 8, passed away last Thursday and the news of his passing immediately filled Giallorossi football fans with sadness who yesterday remembered his exploits with anecdotes from those unforgettable years.

But in addition to the memories, to trace an objective profile of Ciani as a footballer, there are the numbers. 244 appearances in the Giallorossi shirt with 64 goals, making him the second scorer in the history of Ravenna and the third in terms of number of appearances. Ciani played with the Giallorossi shirt for nine seasons, including a fleeting period in 1964/65, before returning to Darsena, when Benelli had not yet been built, in 1966. In the hearts of Ravenna fans Ciani is remembered above all for his goal of the Giallorossi victory in the Serie C playoff in Riccione against Jesi. Even after the end of his football career, Ciani remained very popular in the city, also because the fans went to visit him at his box in the Mercato Coperto, where he used to entertain himself with great competence by talking about the last match of his favorite team. The funeral will be held on Monday 27 May 2024 at 9.30 am at the Redentore church.
