The circus in L’Aquila. Lives, families, stories, itinerancy

L’AQUILA – «The reality of the circus is not just the manifestation of the show: it is about people, families, stories that live – throughout the year – the itinerancy between villages and cities». Bro is telling it Giuseppe Rosati, priest and Capuchin friar minor at the L’Aquila convent of Santa Chiara in Borgo Rivera. He spent forty years of his life with these people, sharing their paths and carrying out his priestly ministry; between sacraments administered, Word proclaimed, catechesis carried out, funerals celebrated.

At the circus we find the various animals, the artistic attractions; but – first and foremost – a humanity, made up of faces and experiences, yearning for joy and an ever wider communion.

Children have fun, families relax; everyone enjoys the daily work of the large circus community. Yet even this commitment – human and working – is enormously affected by the general corporate crisis: the difficulty in finding new workers and involving a large audience in the many evenings of entertainment.

The artists express, in the minutes available to them, the talents acquired and perfected over the years; interpersonal relationships grow and are enriched with new experiences. A few days’ rest, and then we set off again towards other shores, territories, meetings, proposals. It will also happen in our city in this weekend that is opening up before us: the last shows await us; numerous!
