It was a Intesa Sanpaolo Nations Cup ‘double-faced’ for Team Italia which took to the field today in Piazza di Siena.

After a dull first heat (20 penalties), the Azzurri then redeemed themselves in a big way with three clear runs out of four, finishing in eighth place only for the sum of the times (20/0 – 234.09), compared to Austria (12/8 – 224.32) and Sweden (4/16 – 231.58).

Team Italy, made up of Lorenzo De Luca with Cappuccino 194 (4/4), from the 22-year-old debutant in the 5-star CSIO Cup, carabiniere Giacomo Casadei with Marbella du Chabli (8/0), Emanuele Camilli with Chacco’s Girlstar (8/0) and by the 1st graduate of the Air Force Giulia Martinengo Marquet with Delta del’Isle (12/0), he proved his worth in the second heat, leaving behind the uncertainties of the first lap.

The blue city at the press conference Marco Porro illustrated the performance of the Italian team: “All the horses were debuting in a Five Star Cup, and the pressure for the riders was high, so it may be that the first heat went a little uncertainly. I also insisted on returning to the field for the second heat, because these are precisely the opportunities to gain experience, and now I’m particularly happy with how it went. There was a wonderful reaction from everyone and we had confirmation that these horses, with these riders, can have an important future.”

Giacomo Casadei: “I entered the field a little shy in the first heat, afraid of making mistakes, and I didn’t help Marbella du Chabli. However, I recovered at the end of the course and in the second heat everything went well. I return home strengthened by this great experience.”

Giulia Martinengo Marquet: “The horses jumped very well, all of them, already in the first heat, despite it being their first experience in a Cup of this level. In the second heat, we in the saddle showed the right determination and the three of us achieved a perfect, wonderful lap, demonstrating that we had well understood the personal mistakes made in the first heat. And Delta del’Isle has confirmed that she is a top-level mare”.

Emanuele Camilli: “The second heat was certainly better than the first, in which I could have ridden better. Chacco’s Girlstar has proven to be truly up to par for this type of competition and I am really happy, I think the mare is an excellent prospect for the future”.

Lorenzo De Luca: “My first mistake came due to bad luck, the other perhaps due to tiredness, but Cappuccino is progressing steadily. And I’m happy for Casadei, who mounted a splendid second heat: we can say that a star is born!”.

After twelve years since the last success, and for the eleventh time ever, the Germany returned to victory with a team made up of riders Jana Wargers (on Dorette), Jorne Sprehe (Sprehe Hot Easy) and Kendra Claricia Brinkop (Tabasco de Toxandria Z), protagonists of a clear double route, and completed by Daniel Deusser (Killer Queen Vdm), who made a mistake in the first heat and did not start in the second given the team result achieved.

The podium was completed by Ireland (4 penalties) and Belgium (8), who achieved a better overall time than the United States and Mexico.
