Olbia, 4-year-old boy excluded from private nursery school: “Too lively”. The parents appeal

Since May 2nd, a four-year-old child from Olbia has no longer been able to attend the equal nursery school he was enrolled in. “Too lively, in need of a lot of attention and a source of distraction for the other children in the class”: said the teachers and managers of the equivalent school who asked his parents to hire an educator for the little boy at their expense. The parents turned to the lawyer Oriana Erittu to warn the nursery managers, claiming that this is real discrimination against their child. «The situation is degenerating, in the sense that even after the formal warning I presented, nothing has changed and the child is still not attending school – the lawyer tells ANSA – We hoped that the warning would be enough to make them retrace their steps, But this did not happen. You are asked to pay an educator, but the child has not been diagnosed with any pathology, he does not have a certification attesting to any disability. The family is waiting to carry out a neuropsychiatric evaluation, but at the moment the child appears to have no specific problem, other than his liveliness.”

«A private school is required to respect ideas like a public one»

Today Erittu sent the warning and a report to the offices of the Region, responsible for the private schools to which it provides contributions. «Being a private school, the regulations it is required to respect are identical to those of the public ones. They would never have been able to remove the child due to a pathology, because the school must be inclusive”, explains the lawyer. The Councilor for Public Education of the Municipality of Olbia, Sabrina Serra, declared: «I would like to point out that private schools are not the responsibility of the Municipality, but should requests arrive we will try to resolve the situation to ensure first and foremost the right education for the child. training and education and to try to support the family”.
