Lamezia, the silent march in the streets of the center closes the day of remembrance for the victims of the mafia

Lamezia Terme – A commitment that is renewed, that of the Lamezia Day of Remembrance of the innocent victims of the ‘ndrangheta, strongly supported by the Trame Foundation, the Antiraket Lamezia Association and Agesci in the Reventino area, which will take place on 24 May, on the anniversary of the tragic death of Francesco Tramonte and Pasquale Cristiano, have united their voices with those of the victims’ families and the entire community, to keep alive over time a testimony that must not and cannot die.

After a moment of morning reflection in the Miraglia district of Sambiase, where Cristiano and Tramonte were barbarously murdered while carrying out their work, a silent march started at 6pm from the area in front of the Court and reached the pedestrian area of Corso Giovanni Nicotera, to remember all the honest citizens of Lamezia who fell for opposing crime with their mere existence: the magistrate Francesco Ferlaino, the entrepreneur Giuseppe Bertolami, the security guard Antonio Raffaele Talarico, the two garbage collectors Tramonte and Cristiano, the policeman of the fire Pietro Bevilacqua, the police superintendent Salvatore Aversa with his wife Lucia Precenzano, the photographer and carabiniere on leave Gennaro Ventura, the lawyers Torquato Ciriaco and Francesco Pagliuso.

Their names and their stories were remembered one by one by Maria Francesca Gentile, after the introductory speech by Maria Teresa Morano, representatives of the Trame Foundation. “It is a great emotion to see this blue sea in front of me,” said Morano, referring to the color of the scout uniforms – more than a hundred – that crowded Piazza della Repubblica, “I thank you for being here, not to perform a ritual but to do memory, which is a sense of responsibility”. Gentile’s words are also strong in this sense, as in her speech on behalf of the Foundation she defined the memory as a “protection against indifference” and a “heritage to be shared in defense of democratic institutions”. “Preventing the victims of organized crime from falling into oblivion is an act of responsibility towards future generations,” she added, “a way to preserve legality and democratic values. Memory means not only looking at the past but living and building the present.”

The coordinates of the symbolic march were given by the group leader of Lamezia 1, Gisella Ferraro, an active part in the organization of a series of synergistic activities between Agesci, Trame and ALA, which led the children of the clan to personally meet the families of the innocent victims of ‘Ndrangheta, knowing their stories, which were told at the end of the march with the words of the kids themselves, interspersed with songs and projections. At the end, the touching live interview of these young people with the Lametina writer Silvia Camerino, involved with the Red Agenda Movement. Also present at the demonstration were the families of the victims themselves, moved and silent, in front of the crowd of young people marching to remember those who today, despite no longer being alive, remain in the community with their history and their example, which is a heritage of all.
