Lamezia Terme – “We enthusiastically support a new community initiative which aims to redevelop Piazza Garibaldi, in the heart of the former Municipality of Sambiase in Lamezia Terme. A group of citizens, through a popular and community initiative, has launched a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe for the purchase and planting of trees, such as jacarandas and lime trees, in order to create an oasis of greenery that will make the square a more welcoming and livable place, counteracting the current degradation. A true Civic Crowdfunding”. Thus, in a joint note, the municipal councilors of Fratelli d’Italia Antonio Lorena and Pietro Gallo for whom urban greenery “not only beautifies the environment, but also plays a crucial role in improving air quality, in reducing of summer temperatures and in promoting the psychophysical well-being of citizens. Redeveloping Piazza Garibaldi means giving back to the community an important meeting point, encouraging socialization and a sense of belonging. With everyone’s contribution, we can transform this public space into a symbol of rebirth and sustainability for all the citizens of Lamezia Terme. It is important to underline that this fundraising initiative integrates perfectly with the existing project, which will see the light by December 2024. In fact, Piazza Garibaldi was included in the PinQua Project, through which the municipality obtained financing of 100 million euros, of which approximately 2 million are intended for the redevelopment of the square. This overall project also includes other areas of the city such as the G. Renda Bocciodromo and the area in front of it, the Miraglia, Piazza 5 Dicembre, and the sheltered home for the disabled which will be built in the Anzaro district”.

“We are keen – they add – to recognize and appreciate the commitment of citizens who, through this sort of civic crowdfunding, demonstrate a strong desire to improve their environment and actively contribute to the life of the community. This spirit of initiative is always positive and appreciable. As “suspended” city councilors in 2021, we were an active part in following with attention and dedication the part of the PINQuA Project which concerns the redevelopment of Piazza Garibaldi, in collaboration with the then RTP Spazio-Generazione 2021, the municipal offices , and commissioner Priolo, during the period in which Lamezia Terme was under commissionership. Thanks to this joint work, we managed to include this project together with the other areas mentioned above among the priorities for the improvement of our city. We renew our applause to all those who do their utmost for the community through these initiatives and invite all citizens to support this fundraising campaign. Collaboration between community initiatives and institutional projects is fundamental to building a better future for Lamezia Terme”.
