Fines in the city are “worth” 5.4 million euros a year

From fines for violations of the Highway Code, the city of Como collected 5.4 million euros, placing it in fifth place among the Lombardy capitals. The ranking was drawn up by Facile.it based on data from Siope, the information system for the operations of public bodies. Looking at the regional ranking, Milan is in first place (147 million), followed by Brescia (12.4 million), Bergamo (7.5 million), Pavia (6.3 million), Como (5.4 million), Mantua (3.5 million), Monza (3.4 million), Varese (2.8 million), Cremona (2.2 million) and Lecco (1.7 million). The municipalities of Sondrio (652 thousand) and Lodi (490 thousand) close the ranking.

Overall, in 2023, the Lombardy capital municipalities collected over 193.7 million euros from traffic fines.

Analyzing the per capita value, calculated as the ratio between the proceeds and the number of resident inhabitants, Milan is still in first place (108 euros), followed by Pavia (90 euros), Mantua (73 euros), Como (65 euros) , Brescia and Bergamo (both with 63 euros), Lecco and Varese (36 euros), Cremona (32 euros) and Sondrio (31 euros). Monza (28 euros) and Lodi (11 euros) close the ranking. This means that for the amount of fines distributed based on the number of inhabitants, Como rises one position, placing itself in fourth place in the ranking which certainly does not please the citizens.

Facile’s statistics. it also analyzed small municipalities, those with less than 4 thousand inhabitants and, also in this case, there is a municipality in the province of Como. In first place is Buguggiate (Varese) with 3,089 inhabitants and almost 2.5 million euros collected, followed by Vellezzo Bellini (province of Pavia) with 3,398 inhabitants and in third place is Bellagio with its 3,573 inhabitants and almost 899 thousand euros in fines collected last year.
