THE EAGLE. Alberto Sgambati, 66 years old, born in Salerno, former general advocate of the Court of Appeal of the capital, was appointed anti-mafia district attorney of L’Aquila. The indication came yesterday from plenum of the Superior Council of the Judiciary with 14 votes in favour.
The procedure for replacing the outgoing attorney Michele Renzo had been started in recent months. Until now the L’Aquila Public Prosecutor’s Office has been led by the regent, Fabio Picutialso close to a new destination in the autumn, in the Supreme Court, where his colleague from L’Aquila has also landed Simonetta Ciccarelli. They also left the capital’s prosecutor’s office Stefano Gallonow in the Court of Appeal, e Marco Maria Cellini which will operate at the Abruzzo Regional Administrative Court. Thirteen people were running for the prosecutor’s job. The commission of the Superior Council of the Judiciary, with three votes each, had reduced the shortlist of names to Sgambati and Laronga, until the final choice. Sgambati, a magistrate esteemed throughout the Abruzzo region, after having worked in the North, in the 1980s, had taken up the position of deputy prosecutor in the magistrate’s court. Subsequently he obtained, among other roles, the important position of general advocate, managing very important trials in the Court of Appeal in L’Aquila. (ada)
