The park of Villa Rezzola can be visited for two days

On the occasion of Appointment in the gardenan event promoted by Apgi – Association of Italian parks and gardens with the aim of inviting the public to discover the surprising historical, artistic, botanical and landscape richness of Italian gardens, Villa Rezzola in Lerici, an ancient stately home overlooking the Gulf of Poets and bequeathed to the FAI – Italian Environment Fund by Pupa Carnevale Miniati in 2020, will exceptionally open its park for special guided tours, scheduled for Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd June at 11am and 3pm. Participants will have the opportunity to know in advance the restoration and redevelopment project of the park, undertaken by the FAI thanks to the contribution received under the Pnrr.

The park of Villa Rezzola represents one of the greatest testimonies of the presence of the English aristocracy in the Ligurian East and is characterized by the presence of buildings for the care of the garden, a rich botanical variety and a water system originally designed for the correct management of water and for the conservation of the great botanical richness of the garden even in periods of drought.

The story, conducted by architects and specialists “in the field”, will focus on three themes: the restoration of the architectural and monumental components of the park, such as the seedbed, the shade house, the greenhouse, but also the stairs, the paths, the pergolas, retaining walls; the restoration, redevelopment and extraordinary maintenance of the plant component of the park and the design of the garden as a whole; the restoration and enhancement of the historic water system, from surface water conveyance systems to scenographic elements such as basins and fountains.

Accompanying the public on these special “site visits” will be the professionals, from FAI and otherwise, who work on the project: on Saturday 1 June there will be the director of works and designer Roberto Segattini, an architect specialized in the restoration and conservation of cultural heritage who has been collaborating with the FAI on a stable basis for over ten years, and Eros Zanotti, conservator since 1994 and owner of Impresa Magistri srl which is carrying out the intervention with VME srl. Maria Vigevani, architect of the design team who has been collaborating with FAI for ten years on landscape recovery and enhancement projects, will delve into the issues related to the landscape component of the intervention, while the geologist Denjs Tassisto will explain the functioning and recovery of the water system .

On Sunday 2 June Armando Gariboldi – naturalist with specialization in ornithology, agrotechnician and scientific journalist, with various positions in the world of nature conservation behind him, including that of General Director of LIPU/Birdlife Italia – will illustrate to visitors the importance of the park of Villa Rezzola for biodiversity and, in general, for historic gardens as “ecological islands” guardians of flora, fauna and ecosystems. The FAI collaborators, the architects Anna Comi, coordinator of the project on the park of Villa Rezzola and other landscape-environmental recovery projects of FAI assets throughout Italy, and Maria Galli, member of the design and operational management team with great experience in historical research activities and preliminary studies underlying the conservation projects will focus on the architectural, monumental and water components of the intervention.
