Coldiretti Arezzo pensioners: an award for the Tuscan sentinels of sustainability

Agriculture is ageless. The sentinels of sustainability, the agricultural entrepreneurs who throughout their lives, both working and otherwise, have committed themselves and still commit themselves today to protecting the environment and safeguarding and enhancing the landscape, know this well. There are almost 7 thousand direct farmers over 65 in Tuscany who, despite having already met the pension requirements, continue to take care of their land with the same passion and energy as at the beginning. Entrepreneurs who have earned the title of “ambassadors of traditions in contemporary agriculture” in the field because they represent that common thread of knowledge that unites tradition with innovation in agriculture.

Thanks to the possibility of continuing to work in agriculture, in fact, women and men in the sector have a fundamental role in the protection and safeguarding of the environment as it is strategic the role of active aging which represents an important opportunity that can inspire different forms of green sociality and a culture oriented towards inter-generational solidarity.

These are some of the themes at the center of the initiative promoted by Coldiretti Toscana, Coldiretti Arezzo and Federpensionati Coldiretti with Young Enterprise Coldiretti and Women Enterprise Coldiretti scheduled Thursday 23 May (from 10.00 am) at Episcopal Seminary of Arezzo (Piazza di Murello, 2) which will be opened by greetings from the regional president of the pensioners’ association, Giuliano Scattolinof the delegate Giovani Impresa Coldiretti Toscana, Francesco Panzacchi and the Provincial Women’s Business Manager Coldiretti, Elena Bertini. The works will be introduced by Angelo Corsetti (Director of Coldiretti Tuscany) e Lidia Castellucci(President Coldiretti Arezzo).

The initiative will be attended by: Emanuele Stolfi (Professor of the Department of Law of the University of Siena) e Annalisa Gualdani (Professor of the Department of Law of the University of Siena). The national president of Federpensionati concludes the proceedings, Giorgio Grenzi. It will be in this context that the “Sentinels of Sustainability” from across the region will be rewarded: stories of life and agriculture that are intertwined with new generations and communities.

The knowledge of the elderly represents a material and immaterial heritage of inestimable value which can be expressed in various forms of active eco-citizenship such as good practices linked to social agriculture, eco-volunteering and the diffusion of a culture of saving and respect for the environment among the new generations.
