“We note with satisfaction the commitment of the Ministry of Transport and of Minister Matteo Salvini to finance the extraordinary maintenance and modernization works of the Strada Statale 118 Corleonese Agrigentina, an important step forward for an infrastructure which is a crucial hub and which covers a culturally rich man from Sicily”, said Annalisa Tardino, MEP of the League on the sidelines of a meeting in Rome at the Ministry of Transport with a delegation of mayors representing the municipalities of the Sicania area. Present at the meeting were the mayor of Agrigento Franco Miccichè, Francesco Di Giorgio, mayor of Chiusa Sclafani, Giovanna Bubello, mayor of Alessandria della Rocca and Nicolò Nicolosi, mayor of Corleone. “Today’s meeting was fruitful – continues Tardino – and marked a step forward in the right direction. I thank the delegation of mayors present, testifying to the determination of an entire territory that demands attention. It is my personal commitment to plead the cause with the Council of Europe to recognize the Statale 118 as a historic road called “Via Aurelia di Sicilia” and include it in European cultural itineraries, as requested by the municipalities of the area. A step that also includes the competence of the ministries of the environment and tourism, with which coordination will be created, to create an important tourist attraction center for an area that embraces the provinces of Agrigento and Palermo, considering that the road crosses a vast cultural heritage that includes several UNESCO sites, including the Valley of the Temples of Agrigento”. Tardino concludes by stating that “Minister Salvini’s commitment to the modernization and restructuring works of the SS 118 once again demonstrates the League’s commitment to the territories, a commitment that is characterized by the politics of action and concrete solutions”.
