Ravenna was again identified as Safe harbor for the arrival of NGO ship Sea Eyeflying the German flag which he recovered 52 migrants. Estimated arrival is for Saturday, May 25th. The ship is currently located between Lampedusa and Malta. They are on board 52 people including 5 minors.

“When we arrived, we found a overcrowded and inadequate boat to cross the Mediterranean. There were 52 people on board, many of them from Syria. Even though there are some on board vulnerable people who need to find a safe place, we were assigned to Ravennawhich means another 5 days in the Mediterranean for the rescued migrants” he said Julie Schweickert, head of the Sea Eye mission.

“Of the 52 migrants saved, two were unable to ascend independently and they were hoisted with special equipment: fortunately their conditions are improving thanks to the first medical treatments carried out on board. Several other people complain pain due to the impacts suffered during the crossing of the Mediterranean on the overcrowded boat” explained the Dr. Daniela Klein, doctor on board the Sea Eye.

This afternoon, May 21st, the Prefect of Ravenna Castrese De Rosa he called for a premiere at 5pm meeting of the Coordination Table with all interested bodies to establish times and methods for the reception of the 52 migrants. The disembarkation will certainly not take place at the Porto Corsini Terminal due to the presence of a cruise ship. It will be the eleventh landing of NGO ships in the Port of Ravenna, starting December 31, 2022.
