The EMERGENCY volunteer group of Rimini in collaboration with the “RIMINI per ALL” Association is organizing a charity dinner to celebrate 30 years of Emergency. The appointment is for Friday 24 May at 7.30 pm at PalaBertino – Parco Pertini (Rivazzurra – Rimini). Part of the proceeds from the dinner, fish or vegetarian, will go to support Emergency projects. History
EMERGENCY turns 30. It was founded in 1994 in Milan by Gino Stradaa war surgeon, Teresa Sartia history teacher in a middle school, Graziella Sacchettia gynecologist, Franco Casella, a lawyer. Very different people, with very different professions, skills, stories. However, she had something in common: the idea of doing something for those suffering the consequences of war and anti-personnel mines.
Many friends joined immediately, many other people have joined in these 30 years to what was, at the beginning, “an impossible bet”. We have learned, in recent years, that “there are no impossible bets”. We have intervened in 20 countries, building hospitals and healthcare facilities in some of the most disaster-stricken places on the planet.
We have treated more than 13 million people. We denounced the war whenever we could, we claimed rights, we – in our small way – built peace every day, with our scalpels, our actions, our words. We have created a community, which goes from Italy to the other side of the world, which cares for others without asking “who are you?”, but only “do you need help?”. We did all this with a dream in mind: to become useless. It’s been 30 years and we still have that dream. And even if wars continue to torment parts of the world, even if inequalities and violations of human rights continue, we do not abandon it. Because we know that “there are no impossible bets”.
