Lamezia Terme – They will be “Thirteen days of prayer and community joy”, in the intentions of the Guardian Father friar Biagio Bonasso, those celebrated in preparation for the historic feast of Saint Anthony of Padua, Protector Saint of the city of Lamezia: it is the traditional Tredicina, which this year opens on May 31st with the official inauguration of the completely renovated Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli, on the occasion of which the final mass at 7.30 pm will be celebrated by Bishop Monsignor Serafino Parisi in the presence of the authorities. The celebration of 7 daily masses is usual every day – at 6.30, 7.30, 8.30, 9.30, 10.30, 17.30, 19.30 – with the 17.30 mass dedicated each day to welcome the homily of a pastor from a different parish of Lamezia and the invitation to participate in his entire parish community, “to raise awareness and attract the city to the devotion and spirituality of Saint Anthony”. Day 12, as always, will take place during the 10.30 am mass, celebrated by the Provincial Minister of the Capuchins, the entrustment of the votive candle to the Saint by the mayor Mascaro and the municipal administration, a tradition which, again according to the words of the Father Guardiano, “has been perpetuated in this city since 1707, and in ancient times it was carried out by the Podestà”. Day 13 at 11 am the solemn mass will see the intervention of numerous regional authorities involved in the start of the renovation work on the Sanctuary, as well as the police forces. Day 14 the traditional Procession through the streets of the city will begin at 4.30 from the square in front of the Church which will be closed to traffic after 5pm, while day 22 will be a day of thanks to the Lord and the Holy Protector for the celebrations just officiated and of community prayer.
Also planned are 4 evenings of music in the square in front of the Church, and perhaps a more important evening on Corso Numistrano, for which the administration has already given its approval. The new “S. Antonio di Padova” represented by councilor Mimmo Gianturco, who underlines the need to find the necessary funds for the realization of the concert and the success of the party, and to do so in a transparent manner and according to the most correct bureaucratic methods. “For this purpose”, explains Gianturco, “a current account has been activated by the Committee, which will replace the habit of “free offerings” usually donated by the faithful, and an online platform with access methods widespread on the channels social network, from which it will be possible to voluntarily make donations”. A special thanks from the Father Guardian to the Statuaries – represented in the press conference by the secretary Mr. Pileggi – an active part in the renovation works of the Church, who will also have an important role in the Committee, as their presence on the board of directors is foreseen by the Statute.
