The meeting entitled “100 years of Giacomo Matteotti” will be held on Wednesday 29 May at 6 pm in Piazza Giacomo Matteotti in Guidonia, on the occasion of the centenary of the speech in the Chamber of Deputies and the consequent killing of the Member of Parliament considered among the first martyrs of the fascist dictatorship in Italy, to whom the town hall square and center of political life of the city of Guidonia Montecelio is named
The initiative is organized by the “La Sesta Stella” association, which has always been committed to cultural, social and environmental growth in the area, and is sponsored by the municipal administration.
During the meeting we will talk about the values of Giacomo Matteotti, such as the rejection of war, the need for a true ethic of politics at the service of the citizen and the rejection of any dictatorship, considered by the organizers still today as founding values to which to refer.
The event is attended by the famous historian Mauro Canali, author of numerous publications and television broadcasts on the period of the twenty years of fascism in Italy and in particular on the figure of Giacomo Matteotti, and who currently holds the position of scientific curator of the exhibition “Giacomo Matteotti. Life and death of a father of democracy”, inaugurated on 29 February 2024 at Palazzo Braschi in Rome and open until 16 June 2024.
It will also be an opportunity to present Professor Canali’s latest book, containing unpublished documents and new discoveries on the Matteotti crime and to propose a subsequent constructive debate on the social and political legacy of the great statesman.
