“Don’t expect the show,” Stellone said. Well, Vis-Recanatese was a game but seen. Memorable for the goals, the emotions, the reversals, the twists. From start to finish, in a Benelli seething with passion. Pesaro achieves salvation at the last gasp, after being ahead three times and coming back three times. The Giallorossi were relegated at the end of a courageous match and a few minutes from the finish line. They too would have deserved it. On the pitch, the absolute protagonists: Pucciarelli on one side, Sbaffo on the other. The playout you don’t expect. Pyrotechnic competition, right from the start. Along with the competitive spirit and tension, there is a lot of quality. Vis is not only aggressive, they play high, if they play it one on one, they attack with many men, they create superiority on both sides. The risks are there, of course. The throw-in Recanatese is deep and hurts. Just 3′ and Sbaffo shouts for a header, Neri miraculously scores. Vis responds with Molina who drinks Shiba but kicks at Meli.
Vissino’s advantage comes as the culmination of a collective action: Pucciarelli’s curling shot is blocked, Rossetti puts it back in the area and Nicastro turns it towards the net. The Giallorossi aren’t up for it: Melchiorri finds Carpani in the center of the area, a safe shot and Zagnoni saves on the line. The equalizer comes from a penalty: Carpani activates the restart and goes to collect Melchiorri’s invitation in the center of the area, Rossoni intervenes between the leg and the ball, for Perri it is a penalty which Sbaffo converts. Here comes the Vis again: Mattioli passes it into the area for Nicastro who works it for Puccia, a surgical plate in the corner. In the second half Vis tried to cover themselves but immediately got another penalty when Longobardi crossed onto Da Pozzo’s arm: Sbaffo still perfect from the spot.
Vis runs to fill the area again: Di Paola blocked, Karlsson shoots on goal, Meli blocks, Mattioli’s tap-in is blocked by the goalkeeper and the second tap-in scores. Total bedlam, but the Reca never dies. Allievi’s cross and Sbaffo’s header steal time from Zagnoni. Phenomenal. A minute earlier Stellone lost goalkeeper Neri, who crashed into the post in an attempt to prevent Sbaffo’s goal from the midfield spot. And he also lost Nicastro, just as Filippi had to give up Melchiorri. Vis took another risk with Sbaffo, then found the energy for the miracle: an astute free kick from Di Paola, a cross from Rossetti, a shot from Zagnoni which was returned and Pucciarelli found the winning shot. Another high class shot. Never seen a Vis like this (4 goals from open play), never seen a match and salvation like this. At the final whistle Benelli pours onto the pitch and the party lasts until late at night. Like a promotion.
