A large supercell affected the Udine area in the late afternoon of Friday 17 May.

During the last disturbed passages our country, in particular in the Po Valley area, was affected by several supercell thunderstormswhich caused extensive damage due to hailstorms with medium-large sized stones associated with them.

But what is a supercell?

The supercell is a type of thunderstorm which develops in particular predisposing atmospheric conditions and has as its main aspect the presence within it of a rotating updraft. In fact, the entire structure of the cumulonimbus rotates, in the northern hemisphere, in an anti-clockwise direction.
