SANTA MARINELLA – “On the new Province Porta d’Italia, we need to clarify things or a unique opportunity for the territory will be lost”. Mayor Pietro Tidei reiterated this. “Citizens – continues the mayor – have the right to know the truth about the birth of this new body. In recent days I have heard a lot of false news, perhaps due to lack of knowledge of the issue. In the past I was against a possible cohesion between Viterbo and Civitavecchia, since it would not have brought any benefit to the population and the territory.
Today, on the contrary, breaking away from the Metropolitan City of Rome and creating a new body that unites cities like Civitavecchia and Fiumicino, linked like all the coastal towns by an economy linked to the use and valorisation of the sea, represents an opportunity for development for the entire territory. But there are also other reasons why it is appropriate to proceed in this direction and I would like to remind them to those who continue to contest the birth of the new province. In fact, I remember that the government is discussing the creation of differentiated autonomy. This means that many competences, currently still of the central State, will be transferred to the Regions which, however, it is worth clarifying, according to the Constitution they are bodies that legislate but do not personally administer the territories. A task that the Provinces will instead have. It is therefore clear that all the Municipalities that will join the Porta D’Italia project will have a much greater say in the matter, and to be explicit, they will interact with the Province to resolve the real problems and needs of the population. And I am referring to specific skills but also to greater resources for healthcare, tourism, just to give some examples. The provinces will therefore return to carry out all their functions and I know well what we are talking about having held various roles for twenty years in the former Province of Rome, including budget councilor. In the future, if the project of establishing the Porta d’Italia comes to fruition, there will only be benefits also on an economic level”.
