Lagosanto. There are 20 nurses missing at the Delta Hospital and, according to what Mirella Boschetti of Fials says, there are no nurses who opt for that location. It’s about a situation defined as “extremely serious” and “destined to worsen during the summer period” in addition to the fact “which could put the maintenance of services at risk”.
“Are we faced – asks Fials – with a serious error in healthcare planning, in the organization of services, in the analysis of personnel needs, or in a political plan to undermine public healthcare which has also affected Emilia Romagna?”
“How come – they continue – the General Directorates present at the Ctss (Territorial Social and Health Conference) of 8 May 2024, have they not highlighted this critical issue and involved the mayors to agree on concrete solutions in order to make these areas attractive?
Solutions that according to the union do not even come from the Emilia Romagna Region which “remains inert”. In fact, they explain that although it has “allocated additional economic resources to be allocated to healthcare workers involved in reducing waiting lists, it has not opened the purse strings to remunerate professionals who sacrifice their time to fill staff shortages”.
Fials thus decides to launch “an appeal to the local institutions, to the Ctss to urgently implement initiatives to face this new challenge, to make the disadvantaged areas of the Lower Ferrarese attractive”.
Solutions for which the activation of competitions would not be enough since the attractiveness of the Delta is low. Thus “he asks local institutions for interventions aimed at making it easier to find accommodation even in the beach area, at sustainable prices or even for temporary free use, the implementation of the transport system between the hospital structure and homes at times compatible with the shift schedule” .
The problem would then not be limited to the lack of attractiveness of the Delta but also that of the nursing profession “neglected and in decline for years.” They should be valuedre “economically the nurses and all health professions, improving working conditions, with the activation of scholarships, an important incentive that could favor the orientation of recent graduates or other young people looking for work.
And so they ask the “Emilia Romagna Region which competes with the State in matters of health policy, what is it doing and what does it intend to do?”
Also because “health professionals are exhausted, not only at the Delta Hospital, but throughout the province, the lack of staff is a reality that Fials has been reporting for years”.
It is no coincidence that a strike was called on May 23, 2024, in front of the Emilia Romagna Region, “to demand additional economic resources to enhance all healthcare professionals, more hiring, better working conditions”.
