NewTuscia – VITERBO – With the approval by the Rocca administration of the expansion of the Monterazzano landfill, the die has been cast: Viterbo is the “Waste Capital” of Lazio. The political responsibilities for this decision lie with the centre-right regional majority which can no longer hide behind technicalities or technical opinions which have nothing to do, in the case in question, with politics.
We remind you that the Zingaretti administration has managed the dramatic issue of waste in undeniably emergency situations with contingent and urgent ordinances limited in time and quantities caused by the closure of plants and landfills on the basis of sentences issued by the competent judicial authorities or for accidental causes that have waste treatment plants put out of use.
Precisely to get out of this emergency situation, the Zingaretti Administration approved, in 2020, the “Regional waste management plan of the Lazio Region” which envisaged, and still envisages, that each province, including the metropolitan area of Rome, must guarantee the self-sufficiency of waste disposal plants and close the cycle in its territory of competence, granting 36 months to this end to adapt.
In fact, thus excluding any type of regional landfill in Viterbo and the other provinces.
Rocca and his majority, with two regional councilors from the Viterbo area, have made an emergency situation ordinary and structural with the consequence that Monterazzano is the only active landfill in the regional territory.
It comes naturally to remember that the Viterbo right claimed that Zingaretti sent waste to Viterbo but today Zingaretti is no longer there and Rocca not only sends waste in constant and growing volumes but has baptized the Monterazzano landfill as the only regional one in a grave manner.
And to think that today we read on the posters “Tuscia in Europe”, it would be good to start safeguarding it right in the Region.
