FANO Twelve years after the last time and more than 60 since the first, the Giro d’Italia today embraces Fano again. And it will be a long and generous hug like never before. In ’62, with the finish line in Viale Cairoli, as in ’83, with the banner in Viale Adriatico, and in 2012, with the finish line in Viale Gramsci, the pink race had always passed through the main road, allowing only simple turns towards the seafront in the first two circumstances. This time it’s different, with a city route of 27 kilometers that will touch the suburbs and hills, before heading towards the port and the view of the Saxony sea, surrounding the historic centre.

The brilliant ending

Fans of the 200 connected countries will therefore be offered wide glimpses of landscapes and beauty, but also a stage which guarantees fun thanks to an ingenious ending. Because after having put almost 190 kilometers behind them from Martinsicuro, which are not at all banal, in what the experts have dubbed “a small classic” the runners will have to climb up to Monte Giove along via Patuccia, a narrow and treacherous road where they will not fail to gather two-wheel enthusiasts and where the subsequent descent, equally challenging, could also make a selection. Not to mention that even the arrival, on the stretch of Viale XII Settembre, has a treacherous slope. The general timetable includes landing in the municipal area around 4.30 pm, while the winner should be greeted around 5.15 pm. In the meantime, the city will definitely be colored pink, with the heart of hospitality at the Pincio, home of “Giroland”.
While waiting for the arrival, a cross-section of the Carnival was proposed and Pandolface was also involved. At the multi-purpose track of Sassonia the pink greeting of the Aurora gymnasts will take place, while the arrival will be the scene of “Dancing in pink”. Themed entertainment also at Bellocchi, where Pinocchio from Il Paese dei Balocchi has already worn the pink jersey, and at Parco Ricci in Cuccurano. Returning to the competition, the not-so-hidden dream of the promoters of the Fano event is that Tadej Pogacar will put on a show here too, taking the stage as well as confirming himself as leader of the race. «This way we would write history» confides Alighiero Omicioli, deus ex machina of all the major cycling events in the area and still involved in the very last checks yesterday. The test for the organization is in fact unprecedented, precisely due to the breadth of the city layout, and the mobilization of men and means is also unmatched in the past.

Glass is prohibited

The inconvenience for citizens is proportionate (half the city closed to traffic from 1pm to 6pm) who are once again advised to travel by car only if necessary, paying attention to suggested routes and prohibitions. And while an ordinance has been issued which precludes the sale of glass products along the entire arrival area, as well as its use, the Welfare department makes two telephone numbers available from 8.30am to 1pm (0721 887483 – 887445) which elderly and disabled people can use to manage daily activities if they do not benefit from private home support.
