“Always dreaming and knowing that words are true wealth”. This is Roberto Vecchioni’s message to the younger ones. The singer-songwriter protagonist in Benevento for the tenth edition of the Sannio Philosophical Festival, promoted by the Stregati da Sophia association.
The professor of Italian music held a lesson on “The importance of language” at the Teatro San Marco, enchanting the packed room with a detailed analysis of the evolution of words. From the moans of primitive men, from the babbling of children to Shakespeare and up to the most modern language.
“There are wonderful guys, don’t be fooled by those who say otherwise. But it is necessary to teach them that the word is a richness that makes them even more men, people and identities. It’s not enough to click, you need to invent with a pen in your hand.”
And on modern language “It’s different, synthetic but also beautiful. There are very good rappers, Hindi music is done well. It’s certainly not ours. It is not the language of Guccini, De Andrè and Dalla but times change and Guccini, De Andrè and Dalla remain, but I don’t know how much of today’s language will remain”.
And then the ever-present advice of “Dream boy dream”. “I started thinking about it – she says – since I was a child. I was dreaming in the desk… and the dreams saved my life”.
