Brindisi: Psoriasis and other inflammatory diseases, two-day event

We will discuss the news on psoriasis and other chronic inflammatory diseases during the conference scheduled for 10 and 11 May at the Hotel Nettuno in Brindisi. The event, which enjoys the patronage of the Local Health Authority and the Brindisi Medical Association, will bring together some of the greatestnational experts who will compare knowledge and experiences on one of the most socially impacting diseases.

The scientific director of the event is Massimo Travaglini, medical director in charge of the Dermatological Unit – Center for the treatment of psoriasis at the Perrino hospital. The works will be opened by greetings from Mauro Vizzino, president of the Puglia Region Health Commission, Toni Matarrelli, president of the Province of Brindisi, Giuseppe Marchionna, mayor of Brindisi, Arturo Oliva, president of the Brindisi Medical Association, Maurizio De Nuccio, director general of the ASL Brindisi, Vincenzo Gigantelli, health director, and Loredana Carulli, administrative director. The director of the Health Promotion Department of the Puglia Region, Vito Montanaro, will speak via remote connection.

“The clinical and pathogenetic aspect of psoriasis – states Travaglini – is proving to be increasingly complex and systemic, requiring continuous interaction between different specialist figures, not only in the medical field. The psychological impact of the pathology, a syndrome similar to burnout, with tiredness and emotional exhaustion which can lead to a decline in immune defenses, the development of psychological symptoms such as anxiety, depression and a general worsening of the quality of life, is such as to affect the evolutionary process of a subject in the professional and personal field is significantly improved. The repercussions limit the possibility of achieving rewarding goals and cause continuous frustrations which favor unhealthy behaviors potentially affecting any metabolic comorbidities”.

The new therapies aim to allow the patient to face personal and relational growth with the right confidence and maturity, making it possible to face life with the same serenity and ability as a healthy person.

“Innovative biotechnological therapies – continues Travaglini – have evolved over time, refining themselves in the pharmacological and clinical fields. Unfortunately, it is also necessary to analyze the other side of the coin: the high costs of innovative anti-IL (anti-interleukin) therapies, which significantly impact the spending of the national health system, make it necessary to discuss between clinicians and pharmacists to guarantee the prescriptive appropriateness of the biotechnological drugs for the treatment of psoriasis”.

The event will end with a round table between clinicians and pharmacists with the aim of analyzing the different regional scenarios of prescriptive appropriateness and the possible divergences in therapeutic choice, ending with a global summary evaluation of what emerged from the discussion.
