Couple arrested trying to escape police control

Crotone, in prison for resistance and illegal possession of weapons

A 48-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman, both residents of the Ragusa area, were arrested by the Carabinieri of the Crotone Company for resisting a public official and illegal possession of weapons.

The two – who were in a car passing through a city street driven by the woman and also with her daughters inside, aged 15 and 10 respectively – were stopped for a normal check in a city street but, while the military proceeded with the investigations, the driver locked the car from inside and started it again trying to drive away.

The escape attempt, however, was interrupted after about a kilometre, also thanks to the support of another mobile radio patrol.

The couple continued to resist, forcing the police to force the front window of the car to let out first the woman and her two daughters and then the man who had to be sprayed with pepper spray.

The search conducted on both adults revealed two large knives which were seized.

The two were taken to prison while the minors were entrusted to the social services of the Municipality of Crotone.
