Viterbo – The Decameron, the Netflix series filmed in Tuscia arrives in July

The first official images of the series have been released which will re-propose Boccaccio’s short stories in “comedy” style, showing Viterbo and Vignanello with Castello Ruspoli

VITERBO – July is approaching and Netflix is finally starting to reveal the first images of the drama The Decameron, an American TV series filmed largely in Tuscia and which will re-propose Boccaccio’s famous short stories in a “comedy” style.

The opportunity for the Viterbo area will be tempting as the series, regardless of whether they like it or not, will highlight many historical places in the province and the capital itself. The filming of The Decameron, in fact, was almost entirely filmed in Tuscia. The first episodes will show both the San Pellegrino district of Viterbo and the Ruspoli Castle of Vignanello, immortalized in the photos released. The filming, which took place in the winter period between January and February, had not failed to already catalyze extreme interest in these places, where the two countries had been catapulted into the Middle Ages at the time of the plague thanks to notable screenplays.

The Decameron will consist of eight episodes lasting approximately one hour each. The creator of the series, Jenji Kohan, is the same creator of one of the most beloved titles of recent years: “Orange is the New Black”. At the director’s wheel, however, is the seasoned Mike Uppendahl (known for Ratched and American Crime Story).

The Decameron, a work created by Giovanni Boccaccio, is considered one of the most important works of fourteenth-century European literature. A literary achievement that exerted a vast influence on the works of other authors, primarily Geoffrey Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales.

The series, taking up Boccaccio’s novels in detail, will examine current issues of class systems, but also of struggles for power, survival in a pandemic and differences between genders. All with an appropriate touch of lightness.

The cast features Leila Farzad as Stratilia, Lou Gala as Neifile, Karan Gill as Panfilo, Tony Hale as Sirisco, Saoirse-Monica Jackson as Misia, Zosia Mamet as Pampinea, Douggie McMeekin as Tindaro and Jessica Plummer as Philomena.

Viterbo – The Decameron is back, watch out for transit bans
