Foggia, the project that fights addictions with animal care

Self-care involves caring for stray animals. This is the new proposal of the ‘Health, Culture and Society’ therapeutic centre: the project involves six hours divided into two theoretical meetings which will be held starting today and until 16 May, at the Foggia Therapeutic Centre.

This is how the training days will be organized for guests, who are undergoing a therapeutic rehabilitation process for subjects with pathological addictions, within the Center and already engaged daily in the Enpa kennel, supervised by the Enpa representative Giuseppe Ravanelli. They will therefore have the opportunity to address and resolve any problems in the dog world; and foster and improve the relationship with the dog through an approach that puts the human-animal relationship at the center.

These training days will involve the behaviorist dog educator and her staff, Dr. Alessandra Sala, president of the amateur cultural sports association for dog lovers “A Casa di Arturo”. The proposal, also promoted by the councilor for Social Policies with responsibility for welfare and stray dogs, Simona Mendolicchio.

A correct relationship between man and animal can be promoted by adequate information”, explains the vice president of the SCS Therapeutic Center, Davide de Martinis. “The aspects involved are many and range from knowledge of the regulations in force to the physiological and ethological characteristics of the dog, from the specific understanding of its way of communicating to the prevention of its unwanted behaviour. We rely on valid professionals, whom I thank, each committed and competent on one of the specific areas just mentioned”.

“A further demonstration of the commitment made by the Coop’s Board of Directors. Social “Health, Culture and Society” in pursuing the protection and respect of animals and their health”, adds president Antonio Vannella. “Granting an educational and socio-work opportunity means bringing light back to the days of our guests; it means rekindling hope, even to those who are currently subjected to alternative detention measures, to promote their redemption in our society; it means giving meaning to a rehabilitation project, provided for by the Penitentiary Code.”
