A year and a half later he ends up in prison for the attempted murder of a compatriot. He had injured his neck with a hose because he thought he was stealing his bicycle.
The dead man had narrowly escaped us on September 5, 2022 near the infamous bench in Viale Carducci where arguments and bivouacs have long been the order of the day, a bench which today was removed and replaced with a different structure. It was the Imola police who identified the attacker and reported him shortly afterwards, aided by footage from video surveillance cameras and some testimonies. Under the “big-eyed” shelter, the argument took place between the attacker, a young Moroccan who is now 29 years old, and the older attacker, 41 years old, over the possession of a bicycle.
The fact
The definitive reconstruction of the facts has it that the older man had asked some other compatriots sitting around if they could lend him a bicycle because he was late and had to reach home. The same people interviewed had shown him a bicycle and he was about to get on it when the direct owner arrived who thought it was theft and objected. In the most vehement way possible, since he removed the flexible grinder that was placed inside from the basket, he activated it and hit what he believed to be a thief in the neck. Initially hospitalized with a reserved prognosis, the 41-year-old had undergone surgery for his throat wound, then discharged with 25 days. The search for the attacker began immediately, with already several police records. They tracked him down at home and found him still wearing the clothes visible in the camera footage, even though he had gotten rid of the grinder and the flashy red shoes he was wearing at the time of the argument.
The judicial process
Once the flagrant crime had passed, he was only charged for attempted murder. Initially, the judge for preliminary investigations had rejected the request for a precautionary measure made by the public prosecutor who, however, had immediately appealed and obtained in April 2023 a precautionary custody order in prison to be carried out, according to the judge’s order, only upon enforcement, which began on May 3rd. The police did not find the man at his usual address, he had in fact moved to the province of Ravenna where he had some occasional work and went to visit his wife and daughter occasionally. it is there that the officers intercepted him and notified him of the precautionary measure to be served in prison while awaiting trial.
