you risk a fine of up to 500 euros

The municipality of Trapani wants to save over 20 thousand liters a year, prohibiting the inhabitants from wasting water, under penalty of fines ranging from 25 to 500 euros. Since yesterday there has been a ban on using drinking water to wash cars or water plants, except in the evening hours. A provision that concerns users of the integrated water service and not entrepreneurial activities that require the use of water, such as car washes.

The people of Trapani are required to “an extremely careful use of the water supplied by the public aqueduct” and to limit its consumption to domestic and sanitary uses only. And if you think that at the gates of the city there is a water loss of 4 liters per second, you wonder what fine the Municipality of Trapani should incur for “waste of water”.

The bans for citizens are:

  • water the plants on the balcony or garden, if not at night from 11pm to 5am. This is because the water will evaporate more slowly, for an overall average saving of around 5 thousand or 10 thousand liters per year.
  • wash private vehicles with the jet of the pump. Alternatively, the bucket can be used instead of the continuous jet. In this way it is possible to save 400 or 500 liters.
  • water courtyard areas and yards;
  • power ornamental fountains, tubs and private swimming pools, if not equipped with recycling devices;
  • use for filling accumulation tanks not strictly linked to production purposes, unless you have a private well used for carrying out the same activities.

Controls on compliance with the ordinance have been entrusted to the traffic police who will be able to fine citizens with penalties ranging from 25 to 500 euros.
