The Piccolo and Gran San Bernardo hills reopen

Anas is clearing the snow and reassembling the lateral barriers and vertical signs on the Piccolo and Gran San Bernardo hills, in the Aosta Valley. The activities on state road 26, which leads to the Piccolo San Bernardo Pass, began at the end of April and concern a stretch of approximately 4 kilometers between Les Suches, in the municipality of La Thuile, and the state border with France.

On the SS27, activities are underway along the 7.5 kilometers of state road between Cerisey, in the municipality of Saint-Rhémy-en-Bosses and the border with Switzerland, at around 2,400 meters above sea level. The cleaning operations of the section after the winter season, during which the Great St. Bernard Pass is closed to traffic due to snow and the danger of avalanches, were started at the beginning of April.

The activities are conducted by specialized Anas personnel who, on board the snow blowers, open a passage along the roadway to bring the road surface to light. Operations are currently concentrated on the lowest routes. As the cleaning progresses and the altitude rises, the vehicles will find themselves breaking down and removing walls of snow that can even be a few meters high.

The reopening to traffic of the Piccolo and Gran San Bernardo Hills will take place between the end of May and the first days of June in agreement with the relevant managers of the road continuations beyond the state border.
