L’Aquila convinces, more and more young people choose the Academy of Fine Arts

More and more young people choose L’Aquila to train, at the University, Academy of Fine Arts, GSSI or Conservatory. In the last 6 years, the number of freshmen enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts has doubled: an institution that is preparing to play a leading role in L’Aquila, the Italian Capital of Culture.

Tap i 500 members L’Academy of Fine Arts in the current academic year. The total number of students enrolled was 479 and well 158 freshmen: these are the data that testify to a growth trend started in 2018/2019, which is also echoed by positive numbers for the other cultural and training institutions present in the regional capital. The lively cultural context of L’Aquila has had its contribution in attracting young people to the city: while new training centers are expected – from National Fire Brigade School at the National Center of Universal Civil Service – the pre-existing ones continue to work in the wake of renewed synergies and collaborations, now well inserted in a cultural system in constant ferment. Thus, from year to year, the numbers of young people who choose L’Aquila and its Academy of Fine Arts grow.
“The trend relating to freshmen, in the last two years, is particularly positive, furthermore, among the noteworthy data, we note an important presence of students who choose our Academy from outside the region, in addition to the numerous foreign students coming mainly from ‘East. Thanks to this interculturality, increasingly stimulating synergies and opportunities are created – the president of the Academy underlines to our editorial staff Rinaldo Tordera.

Academy of Fine Arts promotion day

“In recent years, the Academy has managed to carve out its own space of visibility, also thanks to the initiatives promoted and well-disclosed via the web: events that have been welcomed by virtue of the quality of the guests and partners involved. Furthermore, we have a rejuvenated teaching staff, much appreciated by our students”, adds Tordera. It is then impossible not to look to 2026. The key year for L’Aquila’s cultural future: the one in which the international spotlight will be turned on L’Aquila, the Italian Capital of Culture. A choral journey for the territory, which will see the young people of the Academy involved in projects and events already in the pipeline. “We too will do our part, with energy and enthusiasm. We will be an active part of the path that will accompany L’Aquila in this adventure. We are already working to implement ad hoc initiatives: in this regard, two weeks ago director Brandizzi and I met the mayor Pierluigi Biondi to inform him in detail about scheduled events. Furthermore, since L’Aquila was officially proclaimed the Italian Capital of Culture, we are receiving proposals not foreseen in the previously developed plan, which will lead us to start with the dedicated initiatives as early as the second half of 2025. Our mission, together with The teaching aspect is to involve our students at 360 degrees, as demonstrated by other already active collaborations: above all the one with MAXXI, which has aroused great interest in many students”.
