Smiles in pink at the Palio

Appointment on Sunday 12 May at the Legnano Castle

Legnano – Not only that Mother’s Day, but an afternoon dedicated to all women, to remind them how, at any age, it is important to take care of their health, especially breast health. This is the objective of the event, “Palio in rosa”, which on Sunday 12 May, at the Castle, will see the Palio di Legnano turn pink, to support Humanitas Mater Domini in raising awareness among women on the topic of breast cancer prevention .

There are three moments of the initiative during which the Paliesca tradition will merge with the concepts of prevention and with the stories of women protagonists of stories of illness and rebirth: from the cinema of the palio to the exhibition of historical women’s clothing signed by the Lisio Foundation, from the talk by Humanitas specialists in which the themes of early diagnosis will be explored and Breast research up to the “pink parade”, where the Castellanas of the eight districts, in historical dresses, will parade alongside the women of “Sorrisi in rosa”, the Humanitas breast prevention project born 8 years ago and involving over 100 women who have faced, or are facing, cancer.

Plan

From 2.30pm – The Legnano Palio and the Palio tradition. Twenty past four: Seen up close, display of clothes to be able to admire up close the precious artefacts made by the Contrade; The Palio cinema at the Cenobio, spectators will be able to see on screen the most exciting moments of the latest editions of the Palio; In-fabrics of history. In collaboration with the Lisio Silk Art Foundation, exhibition of precious fabrics produced and reproduced with respect for historical documentation with presentation of ancient weaving techniques; Lives and triumphs. The 12th century, the majesty of the clothes, the variety of foods, and everyday life far from battles. Many stories, anecdotes and curiosities told in a guided tour with specifically made totems.

At 3.00 pm – From prevention to breast research: the talk by Humanitas specialists. How has women’s care changed over the years? How to do prevention and what are the steps forward in breast research today? How important is the psychological aspect during the treatment process? Humanitas specialists will delve deeper into these themes in a talk open to discussion. The event is free, but reservations are required while places are available.

At 4.00 pm – The pink parade. The Castellane de La Flora, Legnarello, San Bernardino, San Domenico, San Magno, San Martino, Sant’Ambrogio and Sant’Erasmo will parade together with Arianna, Barbara, Chiara C., Chiara V., Delia, Laura, Mariemma and Monica, eight women – out of the now hundreds – testimonials of the Sorrisi in Rosa project by Humanitas. Wearing the historical clothes of the Palio, granted by the Costume Commission, the sixteen women will parade together in the evocative setting of the city’s Castle. Accompanying them on the catwalk were curiosities about the clothes they wore but, above all, the telling of stories of illness and rebirth.
