“Welcome back! Wherever you come from, Veneto is always your home”. This is how the president of the Veneto Region greets the Alpini who this weekend are celebrating their association’s 95th national gathering in Vicenza.
“Our region recognizes its deepest identity in the Alpine troops – continues Zaia – which is identified in the values that have always been of its people, women and men of action, of few words perhaps but always ready to personally get involved in the service of the community. For this reason the gathering that is about to open will not be an annual meeting but will be a popular celebration”.
“The Alpine troops have chosen to arrive in the Berico capital with a great message of peace – continues the governor – I express my thanks to them because the international climate in which we are living makes it indispensable. A message of great value that shows the way to the whole society because it comes from people who have the experience of war in their human DNA, as the mountains of Vicenza and all those of our region recall but also a thousand other places inside and outside the borders”.
“As I love to repeat – concludes the president of Veneto – if the Alpine troops didn’t exist we would have to invent them. This one that is about to begin will once again be a record-breaking gathering, for the number of participants, for the audience, for the enthusiasm it will be able to instil. We will have the opportunity to share ‘the Alpine troops’ dream of peace’ in a festive atmosphere but also of reflection on their and our history, on the dedication and commitment that have made their national association a pillar of our civil protection, on that spirit of solidarity which is of the black pens but also of our people. Veneto loves the Alpine troops and the Alpine troops love Veneto; the meeting in Vicenza will confirm, if there were still any need, that it is not just a figure of speech”.
