Monferrato > Amelia Platone in Asti

The exhibition of graphic works by has opened Amelia Plato (1927 – 1994) at the Eugenio Guglielminetti Foundation in Corso Alfieri 375 in Asti, open to visitors until 26 May 2024.

Pupil of Felice Casorati, Filippo Scroppo, Marcello Boglione and Mario Calandri, Amelia Platone graduated from the Albertina Academy and at the same time from the “Vivaldi” Conservatory of Alessandria in Piano.

In 1955 he began to develop a passion for modeling clay, creating high reliefs, obtaining splendid terracottas. The subjects he prefers for his sculptures are linked to everyday social life: office counters, waiting, the lesson, the load, old carriage, the employee, bricklayer, which are also found in many linoleum engravings with a search for even humble subjects such as succulent plant, the coffee pot, the bench, carts, the barrels.

It is clear that Amelia Platone is an artist sensitive to the existence of people and things, attentive to fatigue, to the flow of life and knows how to capture the moments, the overcoming of the day with inner peace.

We remember that in 1954 he obtained the 2nd Prize ex aequo with Mauro Chessa at the Città di Casale, an exhibition dedicated to the Tenth Anniversary of the Resistance. He exhibited in 1966 at the “La Maggiolina” Gallery in Alessandria and in Casale Monferrato in 1969 and in 1973 at the “S. Evasio” (curated by the Casalese painter Mario Tassisto) and in 1975 at the “Acquario 3” Gallery in via Leoni.

Also important are the exhibitions at the “Villata” gallery in Cerrina in 1982, at the “Centro di Cultura” in Valenza in 1990 and at the Baptistery of San Pietro in Asti in 2008 curated by Marida Faussone.
