Ferretti’s refusal to create a site for the construction of luxury boats on the former Belleli yard did not mean the elimination of shipbuilding in Taranto. Tomorrow, in fact, the hull of a mega yacht produced by the SGM shipyard on behalf of Azimut Benetti will be launched in the waters of the Small Sea, entirely built by local workers, the result of the synergies between three companies (SGM, Sea style company and Costruzioni generali) led respectively from Maurizio Abbatematteo and Pasquale Di Napoli. The vessel, called FB616 and made entirely of steel and aluminium, is 50 meters long and required 12 months of work (180,000 hours) by around eighty workers with an average age of 32 years old, experts in welding and non-compliant checks. destructive, weighs 220 tons and costs its American owner no less than 40 million. After the launch, the hull will be transferred to the Azimut nautical factory in Livorno for internal and external fittings, engines and finishes. In the meantime, two other hulls are under construction in the Taranto shipyard, one 50 meters and the other 60 metres, to be delivered between this year and 2025, which are employing 220 people.
Taranto, the first 50 meter long Azimut Benetti super yacht will be launched on Tuesday in the waters of the Mar Piccolo
