Football, Atalanta passes Salerno 2-1 and catches up with Roma

AGI – In the postponement of the thirty-fifth matchday of Serie A, Atalanta wins 2-1 against Salernitana and hooks Roma to the fifth place, grabbing the Champions League train. At the Arechi in Salerno, Scamacca and Koopmeiners respond to Tchaouna’s goal: Gasperini’s boys regulate an already relegated Salernitana team, but never tamed and well placed on the pitch.

Despite Atalanta’s positive approach, the first half ends surprisingly with Salernitana in the lead. The Granata’s goal arrived in the 18th minute and was scored by Tchaouna, capable of taking advantage of the excessively soft attitude of the Bergamo defence: the French attacker flew down the right wing and then finished with a precise left-footed shot into the bottom corner.

On the other side, Atalanta devours the goal several times, especially at the start when, in the 7th minute, Miranchuk in front of Fiorillo widens his left foot too much, failing to frame the goal. The triple substitution at the start of the second half gives an idea of Gasperini’s dissatisfaction: Koopmeiners, Ruggeri and De Katelaere enter the field. Salernitana tries to stay short and close every opening, but Atalanta grows in danger, thanks above all to Koopmeiners’ finishing quality.

In the 57th minute the Nerazzurri equalized with Scamacca, quick to deflect Pasalic’s penalty area into a small area. Six minutes later, however, Koopmeiners completed the comeback, using a powerful shot from twenty metres. Salernitana does not intend to give up and, in the 72nd minute, comes close to making the sensational 2-2, thanks to Legowski’s shot from the spot, blocked by Hateboer.

In the final, the Bergamo players try to manage ball possession, but suffer from Tchaouna’s attempts at the restart. With this victory Atalanta rises to 60 points and reaches Roma, their opponents next weekend.
