Institutional visit this morning to the Archaeological Park of Lilibeo-Marsala by the Regional Councilor for Cultural Heritage and Sicilian Identity, Francesco Paolo Scarpinato.
The councilor wanted to meet again with the naval archaeologists, engaged in the study and restoration of the Marausa 2 ship, recovered in October last year, to personally see the progress of the works, preparatory to its museum display.
After admiring the monumental Plateia Aelia of the archaeological area of Capo Boeo, the councilor, welcomed by the Director, Anna Occhipinti, in the presence of the archaeologist Maria Grazia Griffo and doctor Eleonora Romano, visited the areas of the Punic moat in via Marconi /Pascasino and Vico Infermeria, affected by archaeological excavations, financed by the Regional Department of Cultural Heritage.
Led by Marco Correra, head of the cooperative company that carried out the investigations, he was able to appreciate in advance what was highlighted: the original height of the imposing defensive system of the Punic Lilibeo, investigated for the first time, but also the majestic bridge of stone that crossed it and the tunnel that, below the bottom level of the moat, ran under the bridge. First fruits that the citizens of Marsala, and not only them, will be able to admire during the upcoming Open Day scheduled for Sunday 12 May.
