Part on anti-pothole plan of the Municipality of Palermo. After the announcement made in recent days, the first road maintenance works have begun on some of the main axes of the 4th District. These include via Ernesto Basile, via Re Ruggero, corso Calatafimi and viale Regione Siciliana, near via Pitrè. In the future, the interventions will involve all the other districts of the city and some of the busiest streets of the Sicilian capital, such as via Belgium And via Montepellegrino. Works already included in the three-year public works plan, which will serve to counterbalance the negative effects of lack of maintenance and the continuous passage of heavy vehicles.
Orlando: “Maintenance system fully operational within five years”
A project aimed at partially solving a problem that has affected the daily lives of Palermo citizens for a couple of decades already. The long-term objective is however more ambitious, as underlined by the Councilor for Public Works Salvatore Orlando. The representative of the Lagalla Council, present this morning at the start of the works underway in Calatafimi, took stock of the situation. “We have set up a technical structure, providing them with resources that will allow us to give the first answers. We have a more ambitious plan that will allow the Administration to implement an ordinary and extraordinary maintenance system that will provide definitive answers within four or five years“.
In some areas interventions also take place at night
There was no shortage of traffic disruptions. The construction sites in question have reduced the road surface in some places. A necessary sacrifice to have better roads. “In some areas the works will be carried out at night, while in others they must necessarily take place during the day – highlights Salvatore Orlando -. The important thing is to have a minimum of collaboration. We ask citizens for a minimum of patience“.
Where will the next jobs be?
Then a look at future interventions. “It took us a few weeks to get this anti-pothole plan started. It is an ambitious project which will involve all the districts and the main road axes. We started from via Castelforte. We will continue on via Belgio and via Montepellegrino. Finally the Municipality has a plan after years of lack of maintenance. The project sees us in possession of some resources and a lot of good will. We rely on external companies but an in-house service for cold pothole plugging will soon also start“.
