Guess who’s coming to dinner: An educational experience that engages and delights at the IC “Faenza – San Rocco”

On the evening of Friday 3 May, the canteen of the “Martiri di Kefalonia” primary school was the stage for a particular event, an experience that expertly combined culinary art with educational learning. In collaboration with the “Artusi” Hotel Institute of Riolo Terme and with the support of various local entities, including “Granfrutta Zani”, “Conad Filanda”, “Coop. Intesa” of Faenza and “Gemos”, an educational activity was organized with a catchy title: “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner”.

The protagonists of the event were the students of the “Bendandi” secondary school of the IC “Faenza – San Rocco”. But more than just a dinner, this was an educational journey through different disciplines.

The anthropology department, led by Professor Maria Teresa Grilli, has created a training course focused on civic education, with a careful look at the concept of sustainable development and health. A journey that embraced music, art, religion and physical education, leading students to explore the theme of food in different cultures, the principles of a balanced diet and the creation of menus and placemats, even delving into the relationship between food and music.

The highlight of this experience was the dinner itself, the “end product” of teamwork and hands-on learning. The classes worked together to vote on the best menu, which was then prepared and served during the event. Here the Hotel Institute played a key role, guiding the students in practical preparation, from the selection of fresh products to the impeccable service.

But the learning didn’t stop there. The students had the opportunity to interact with industry professionals, learning from them and enriching themselves with their experiences. The collaboration with local companies has made active involvement of the community possible, creating a solid bond between school and territory.

This experience was not only a moment of conviviality and tasty tasting, but a precious opportunity for personal growth and practical learning. He demonstrated that education is not limited to the four walls of the classroom, but can be transformative when students are involved in concrete and challenging projects. “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner” was much more than just an event, it was a shining example of how education can be transformative, engaging and creative.
