Castellammare di Stabia is preparing to welcome the feast of its patron saint, San Catello, with a series of religious and celebratory events that unite the community in a profound demonstration of faith and devotion.

The Co-Cathedral Church of Castellammare di Stabia will be at the center of the celebrations in honor of San Catello, Patron Saint of the City and of the Archdiocese. The festival will take place from 4 to 12 May 2024, with a series of religious rituals and rites involving residents and visitors.

The activities will begin on Saturday 4 May with the enthronement of the statue of San Catello at the co-cathedral, followed the following day by celebrations according to the holiday timetable. On Wednesday 8 May, there will be a moment of special prayer to the Madonna of Pompeii followed by a Holy Mass.

From 9 to 11 May, the days will begin with the Holy Rosary followed by the Holy Mass in the morning, and in the late afternoon the Holy Rosary and the Chaplet will be held again before the evening Holy Mass. During these days, the new priest Don Pasquale Fiorillo will guide the community in listening to the Word of God.

The celebration will reach its climax on Sunday 12 May with the celebration of the Patronage Festival. During the day, three morning Masses will be held followed by a solemn procession in the afternoon, which will involve the religious, civil and military authorities along a route through the main streets of the city, culminating with the return to the Cathedral.

The procession will be followed by a Concelebration presided over by Archbishop Mons. Francesco Alfano, together with the parish priests and priests of the city. This event will be a unique opportunity for the community to unite and share the joy of faith, in accordance with the words of Benedict XVI: “The Gospel is not an exclusive good of those who have received it, but it is a gift to be shared, a good news to share.”

The feast of San Catello in Castellammare di Stabia promises to be a moment of profound spirituality and sharing for all participants, representing a precious link between the history, faith and community of this fascinating coastal city.
