However, Williams team principal James Vowles denied that Antonelli will make his debut in Imola, guaranteeing that Sargeant will regularly remain behind the wheel of his car. Here are his words: “There are rumors going around that speak of Antonelli making his debut with Williams already in Imola, but I can assure you that we won’t see him in the car in two weeks“.
Therefore, the debut of the very young Italian driver appears to be denied while the rumors are still insistent that speak of Antonelli in the car from the Belgian Grand Prix, i.e. the one in which he will finally be of age.
We’ll see whether or not there will be a sequel to this sensational scenario. Apparently, Mercedes has identified him as a possible replacement for Hamilton. Wolff dotes on Antonelli and would like to see him at work on a Williams (the team to which Mercedes supplies the engines) in view of his future arrival in the team.
