“Here we go again. The lapidariumlocated next to the symbolic monument of Benevento was vandalized. An unfortunately recurring pattern in city dynamics: you install a work, a piece of furniture, a decoration and it only takes a few days or in some cases a few hours to see it vandalized.” They begin like this, in a note, from PD group at Palazzo Mosti. According to the Dem, «in this case a work is being targeted for which, let us remember, a sophisticated surveillance program proof against criminal professionals had also been announced and then simple vandals, probably children, are enough to cause damage. Because not only is there no sophisticated surveillance system, but apparently not even the cameras in the area work.” According to the PD council group, «the opposition in the commission meetings has often urged the administration to provide effectively for the surveillance and supervision of these works, evidently in vain. Net of this, however, and of the necessary repression that must be made of gestures that cannot be classified as nonsense, it would also be appropriate to raise our children’s awareness of the beauty of our city. Educate them, perhaps in a dialogue with schools, about respect and the importance of our monuments.”

A topic that also raised the intervention of Civic 22: «Unfortunately, exactly what we predicted months ago in the commission has happened. It is clear that the heartfelt appeals to the vandals do not move the problem one iota. When you decide to do an intervention, especially a risky one like this one in the lapidarium, you need to have great contact with reality. We said from the beginning that the interactive map would be the first thing at risk and so it was. If we had at least considered placing this artefact within the gardens of Sant’Ilario, as we had proposed, it certainly would not have happened. In any case, the first thing after installation had to be the activation of the cameras, especially since the delay in delivery was also widely expected. The sad truth is that it was decided to spend money (a lot) without having the slightest idea of what to place inside the structure, without strategy, without planning, as would be desirable when the aim is to have a positive impact on tourist flows”.
