I am 63 the beneficiaries who appear to have unduly obtained citizenship income, for a total amount of 691,000 euros, identified by the financiers of the Provincial Command of Foggia in the last two months following targeted controls to protect public spending and social security and welfare payments. The checks affected the entire territory of the Capitanata and were carried out, in particular, by the Fiamme Gialle of the Cerignola and San Severo Companies, as well as the Tenenze of Vieste, San Nicandro Garganico and Torre Fantine. All recipients of the subsidy in relation to whom, from the investigations carried out, it is believed that the requirements are lacking, have been reported to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Foggia and, at the same time, reported to the INPS Provincial Directorate for the suspension of payments. The related criminal proceedings are still in the preliminary investigation phase and all the suspects cannot be considered guilty until an irrevocable conviction has been pronounced.
Numerous irregularities were found by the Fiamme Gialle, ranging from the lack of the requirement of actual residence in the national territory to false declarations relating to the composition of the family unit, from the failure to declare the carrying out of work activities, in several cases even carried out illegally, to loss of the right to benefits as a consequence of the state of detention. In a municipality in the Gargano, an entire family unit would have presented applications to obtain citizenship income, attaching a substitute declaration lacking an indication of the exact composition of the family unit, thus unduly collecting a total sum of over 21,400 euros. The fight against fraud in the social security and welfare sectors aims to guarantee effective support for the weakest sections of the population, avoiding the waste of resources for the benefit of non-eligible individuals.
