Lions International, the largest service club organization in the world, present in over 200 countries with more than 1,400,000 volunteer members serving humanitarian causes, presented a plaque of thanks to the 160 companies associated with Amici di Como, for the timely gesture of generosity and solidarity towards the population of Emilia Romagna in the provinces of Bologna, Cesena, Forlì and Ravenna, left without drinking water due to the catastrophic floods in the months of May and June of last year, floods which had also compromised the aquifers.
Amici di Como promptly donated 62 pallets for a total of 37,200 1.5 liter bottles of San Bernardo natural water. To this significant and appreciated contribution was further added the donation of 4 pallets of Chicco and Bennet toys, packaged by the children of the La Nostra Famiglia Guided Work Centre, transported by the associated Bianchi Group, destined for 14 nursery schools of different countries, whose premises have been destroyed or severely damaged.
The delivery of the thank you plaque took place on 9 April 2024 in Villa d’Este in the presence of 320 guests gathered for the first annual meeting of the association and for the presentation of the Magic Lake magazine. The recognition was donated to the president of Amici di Como, Alessandro Tessuto, by the immediate Past Governor, District 108 Ib1, Dr. Francesca Fiorella Trovato, also on behalf of Francesca Ramicone immediate Past Governor of District 108A.
On the same evening, Maria Cristina Forgione, president of the Lions Club Como Plinio il Giovane, at the end of reading the mission and vision of Lions International and anticipating the national Lions Day, awarded the highest Lionistic merit “MELVIN JONES FELLOW” (from name of the founder) to Amici di Como, in the person of the general director, Daniele Brunati (who is also the publisher of this newspaper), for the merits recognized to the association in favor of humanitarian causes.
Amici di Como, since its foundation in 2001, has invested 10 million euros in the creation of major works such as “Life Electric” and in major events such as “Città dei Balocchi”. The association has also carried out numerous solidarity projects towards people and communities, such as “A gift at Christmas” with the distribution of over 5,000 food parcels to families and solidarity centers in the area, the donation of a biocontainment stretcher for the transport of patients affected by highly contagious diseases and the “Arianna Project” which, thanks to animal-assisted therapy, gives relief to young hospitalized patients and their families, thanks to the collaboration of ABIO Como and the Lions Club Como Plinio il Giovane .
