LIVORNO Livornoscienza is back, the event dedicated to experiments and robots created by the Cecioni high school. After the forced stop due to the pandemic, the school in via Galilei starts again with the seventh edition which will be held in the splendid setting of the Officine Storiche di Porta a Mare.
In the new commercial complex, over 250 students, on Friday 10 May from 10am to 4pm, will alternate between stands and workbenches with the aim of surprising visitors accompanied by “colleagues” from classes 2E of the Carducci comprehensive institute, 3A and 3B of the the Micheli-Bolognesi comprehensive institute and the Stem group of the Benci-Borsi comprehensive institute.
«The return of this event is a source of great pride – he explains Paola Burani, coordinator of the Cecioni Science Department – because Livornoscienza is now in Cecioni’s DNA. It is a collective event that aims to keep alive a territorial center made up of teachers from our school as well as from other schools of all levels, from Livorno and the province. Livornoscienza has had a noble aim since its inception: scientific promotion from childhood in our city.”
The return of Livornoscienza comes alongside a series of scientific activities that Cecioni is engaging in, from the organization of the exhibition on the great female scientists of the 20th century to the Astrolab project which involved around twenty students at the astronomical observatory of San Marcello Pistoiese .
«The Friday initiatives see students as protagonists, as true scientists – he explains Luca Bracci, coordinator of the mathematics, physics and computer science department – the children will exhibit and try various scientific activities, including recreational activities, which will involve both other visiting classes and the various teachers who will evaluate the works as well as the authorities who want to participate. In this case we will adapt their exhibition register to the visitors.”
The list of activities proposed in the event ranges from the robotic competition to the use of bacteria as ecological biosensors, from the theater of “Stolen Discoveries” to dark water-clear water up to radioactivity measurements.
«The hope and our great satisfaction would be to be able to involve the students’ families – concludes Burani – creating that participation that breaks down barriers».
Livornoscienza will end on Saturday 11 May at 3pm, with the start of a round table on the closing event. In addition to the leaders of the Officine del mare, the head teachers of the schools involved and the authorities will participate. Then, the word will pass to the associations that keep the name of science high in our city to conclude with a joking intervention by Claudio Marmugi.
