Cgil and Fillea Cgil Florence: “No electoral controversies over deaths at work. It is the government that is responsible for increasing the number of personnel for controls. We are discussing with the Municipality to guarantee a transparent construction site and no cascade subcontracting on construction sites”
The investigations will determine the responsibilities for what happened on the construction site in via Mariti. What is certain is that there were contract workers on that construction site and that the biggest safety problems lurk in the subcontracting chains. The current government has reintroduced the possibility of cascade subcontracting into public construction sites and still does not provide at all sufficient answers on safety issues, despite the constant mobilization of trade union forces on this emergency. The centre-right candidate for mayor would do well to turn his attention to the government’s lack of action and not to exploit this tragic event for local controversy and electoral purposes.
We from the Municipality expect – we are discussing it – that the electronic badging model for public construction sites will be extended with the transparent construction procedure, as signed for the tramway construction site, and we ask for the sterilization of cascade subcontracting in its contracts. We ask the inspection bodies to intensify the joint dimension of the controls to maximize their effectiveness. We ask the government for what is present in our national platforms and, among these requests, the increase in control staff to which the centre-right mayoral candidate refers.
Let’s leave these delicate issues out of the electoral controversy, but above all let’s talk about them with competence and without unnecessary approximations.
