“Bring the Sant’Agostino beach back to the Civitavecchia district”

We receive and publish. The project of the new Porta d’Italia province should gather, according to the idea of the promoters, around 12 municipalities: (Civitavecchia, Tarquinia, Fiumicino, Ladispoli, Montalto di Castro, Monte Romano, Santa Marinella, Tolfa, Allumiere. A territory, which as wrote the Corriere della Sera, “it would have a considerable economic weight: it would, in fact, be a sort of tourist paradise equipped with international ports and airports (Civitavecchia and Fiumicino), seas, mountains (Tolfa and Allumiere) and lakes (the of Bracciano). A superpower, in short, with almost 300 thousand inhabitants and many strategic assets for the local economy”.

Within this territorial redesign with the creation of the new Province, the territory of Civitavecchia will be able to be redefined: our city has not had the development it deserved also for geographical reasons. The current district of Civitavecchia is certainly very small territorially. The various “detachments” that Civitavecchia suffered, which until 1949 reached as far as Rome, took away from the Municipality of Civitavecchia a contractual and economic strength that otherwise would not have had equal in Lazio after Rome. In addition to the development of the port and the electricity sector, there would also have been the tourism sector, which for example characterized Santa Marinella especially in the 1960s. Compared to its initial plan, Civitavecchia paid dearly for this territorial lack. For example, Civitavecchia has few bathing beaches and all of them are in front of the town centre. Over the years, the beach of Civitavecchio has become Sant’Agostino. A beautiful beach, a very sparsely inhabited area, abandoned by the municipality of Tarquinia in terms of services – only paid parking for the citizens of Civitavecchia who go to the sea there – which has not had any valorisation, because other places have been preferred by Tarquinia closest to its city center: Tarquinia Lido and Marina Velca.

We must, as the Municipality of Civitavecchia, ask the Lazio Region to redefine our territorial district, asking that it reach the mouth of the Mignone. Let’s redevelop Frasca and make Sant’Agostino a beach that attracts tourists like Argentario. In this way Civitavecchia will be able to truly develop its tourist vocation. Ivan Magrì, candidate for the city council with Uniti per Civitavecchia.
