Alberto Gilardino will be Genoa’s coach for another two seasons. The coach himself was clear: “I have found a verbal agreement with the club. We’ll see you again in the next few days for the final details. I’m happy. Staying at Genoa has always been my desire, my will. The management must be given credit for believing in me. Together we can continue to do great work.”
The announcement came on the eve of the San Siro match against Milan (tomorrow, start at 6pm). The rossoblù are not aiming for fundamental goals but intend to continue the happy moment: “We must continue to dream and improve. We aim to always stay within the match, playing with the utmost attention. Milan is a team that can put everyone in difficulty at any moment of the match. We will try to limit their skill and enhance our qualities when we are in the opponent’s half of the pitch.”
The presence of Gudmundsson, victim of a mild flu attack, is still in doubt, but the trainer hopes to recover him. Otherwise, there will be room for Ekuban or Vitinha, on whom Gila is banking: “he is recovering his best form and the desire is to grant him a certain continuity in playing time. As for Retegui, scoring is an important and stimulating thing for any attacker. I invite him to stay focused on what the team needs. Then the episodes will go towards him, and he will certainly return to scoring.”
Vogliacco’s confirmation in the defensive trio is certain (Bani is still out), while Thorsby should still find a place in the midfield, while on the flanks there remain two run-offs, with Sabelli and Martin favored over Spence and Haps.
Milan will be missing their starters Maignan, Calabria and Lotus Cheek, but will have Tomori back in defence. The Rossoneri supporters have decided to go on strike in protest towards the team and club.
