Calling the attention of the Strategic Management of the ASP of Catania to the management of the parking area inside the Acireale hospital: this is the reason that led the workers of the Acireale hospital to protest. The parking area provided for employees, in fact, during the shift change time slots, especially between 1.30pm and 2.30pm, due to the overlap between those who have to take service and those waiting for the change to complete the service, does not it is sufficient to accommodate all the employees’ cars. Hence the position taken by the company that manages the parking contract which, in the absence of availability of parking spaces in the area reserved for staff, denied access to the facility to employees, or granted access only if they provides for the payment of parking in stalls not reserved for workers. Precisely for this reason there are delays and inefficiencies in shift changes and, in the opinion of the trade unions, prohibiting access to employees in the workplace could be seen as an attempt to interrupt a public service.
Furthermore, many workers, not finding spaces in the area reserved for them, park outside of it and are fined 25 euros by the contracting company. For these reasons the situation has become unsustainable at the Acireale hospital and therefore the provincial secretaries of FP Cgil Concetta La Rosa, CISL FP Danilo Sottile and UIL FPL Mario Conti have called this protest demonstration which had the participation of many workers present and the sharing of many others although not present because on duty but still in solidarity with the initiative. During the event, a delegation made up of the Provincial Secretaries and Company representatives of the Presidium, Giovanni Valastro for the FP CGIL, Nuccio Rizzo for the CISL FP and Antonio Musumeci for the UIL FPL, were received by the Health Director of Acireale, Dr. Rosario Cunsolo and Dr. Daniela Spampinato, Administrative Director of the Acireale PO as well as the paid parking service within the Acireale hospital, who proved to be particularly sensitive to the problem raised.
After listening to the workers’ reasons, Dr. Cunsolo highlighted the interventions implemented in an attempt to mitigate the problem, including the opening of another small area to be used as a car park and the warning to the company to prevent workers from accessing the service. He then anticipated that on Monday 6 May in Acireale the Company Management with the Medical and Administrative Management of the Presidium will meet the contracting company to find an administrative solution to the issue. All the trade union organizations in thanking Dr. Cunsolo and Dr. Spampinato for their availability, in taking note of their assurances, they ask, pending a solution to the problem, that access is not prevented and sanctions are not high for workers who go to hospital to guarantee a public service. They also ask to be updated as soon as possible on the outcomes of the meetings between Company Management and the contracting company.
