Modica – Three people have been reported to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Ragusa by the local police of Modica, for having carried out illegal construction work in the historic centre, each for their own role. They are the owner-client of the structure, 47 years old, resident in Noto, the works director, 54 years old, resident in Lombardy, and a 43 year old man from Modica, owner of the executing company.
According to what was ascertained by the Construction Police Operations Unit, the three would have, in competition, carried out construction works in breach of the building permit and subsequent variant SCIA, the authorization of the Civil Engineers and the Landscape authorizations of the Superintendence of Cultural and Environmental Heritage of Ragusa. All this was ascertained following a joint inspection between the Local Police, the Urban Planning Sector of the Municipality of Modica and the Superintendence. In particular, it was found that, compared to the original project, the level of the structure had been raised by approximately two metres, effectively compromising the visibility/view, given that the building was originally underneath the road (we are in the area of the Cathedral of San Giorgio, a UNESCO World Heritage Site). The work was stopped.
