The fascism of the anti-fascists has struck again. And the intolerant are happy about it too. The cancellation of the conference on Israel scheduled for May 7th at the University of Milan has galvanized the red collectives who were aiming precisely for that objective. The “very high risk” of clashes and accidents reported by the police headquarters has in fact induced the organizers of the event to desist, to the great satisfaction of the antagonists who have been trying to keep the universities in check for months.
“Cancellation of this event is one great victoryand is the result of the pressure and numerous mobilizations alongside the Palestinian resistance that as students of the State University we have carried out in recent months, practicing the academic boycott of the agreements with Israel and with the war chain“, the activists of the communist youth organization rejoiced Change course, pleased with the result obtained. In reality, what occurred at the Milan State Road was just yet another slap in the face of democracy and the free circulation of ideas in a place which – by its very nature – should instead represent the maximum expression of those values.
THE illiberal methods of those who claim to impose a single voice, otherwise, have caused a further defeat of civil coexistence. With all due respect to those who persist in not recognizing the problem. “The university governance knows very well that we would not have stood by and that we would not have left undisturbed yet another vulgar attempt to legitimize a violent and colonialist ideology such as Zionism within our university“, added the protestors, once again fanning the embers of the now well-known and aggressive rhetoric against Israel.
“To the Italy-Israel Association which asked the rector for authorization for a pro-Israel conference with the excuse that a pro-Palestine initiative has already been held at the University, we reply that there cannot be no symmetry between an illegitimate state that has been perpetrating genocide for more than seventy years and a people that heroically resists oppression and the apartheid regime“, we read in a statement released on social media by Cambiare Rotta. The hostilities of the students in revolt did not even spare the rector of the Milan State University, Elio Franzini, targeted by activists as has already happened to several of his colleagues throughout Italy.
“Today’s victory proves that fighting pays off: we will not let pass any vulgar attempt to clear war and Zionism in the places of education“, concluded the antagonists of the university collective.
And now, the intolerance proudly claimed by these young people even risks entering the academic institutions: in view of the upcoming university elections (from 7 to 9 May), the communist organization Cambiare Rotta has in fact presented its own list and its own program focused on the now well-known themes of struggle.
